Register Your School Garden

Whether your school garden is in the planning stage, is being built, or is an active part of your school community, we want you to register with Grow to Learn NYC and join our incredible network of school gardeners. As a registered school, you will be eligible to receive free materials, get site based technical assistance from our staff, and apply for a Grow to Learn mini-grant to fund a new or expanding garden. For detailed registration instructions, visit our step-by-step registration guide in our resource library.

Secure funding and supplies

School gardens must be registered with Grow To Learn NYC to be eligible for the Grow to Learn mini-grants. As the Citywide School Gardens Initiative, we work closely with non-profits, private corporations, and individuals who want to help school gardens, and can help connect your garden with other resources as well.

Site Visit Types & Times:

  • Planning Phase: You can request a site visit from our team to help your garden committee come up with a shared garden vision and design plan.
  • Mini-grant recipient: Grantees receive visits at two points- 3 months and 1 year after they receive the grant- to smooth any early challenges (3 month) and help the school continue to integrate the garden more fully into the school culture and curriculum (1 year).
  • Action Planning and Improvement: Grow to Learn staff would love to visit your school to go through an improvement action planning process. We are using a tool developed by Columbia University’s wonderful Tisch Center, and we will work with your garden committee to think through successes, challenges, and how you hope to expand or deepen your garden work.
  • Mini-grant recipient: Grantees receive visits at two points- 3 months and 1 year after they receive the grant- to smooth any early challenges (3 month) and help the school continue to integrate the garden more fully into the school culture and curriculum (1 year).
  • Build day: Grow to Learn staff can assist a limited number of schools to plan and implement a garden build day. Schools will receive priority for these events based on Grow to Learn’s need profile (Title 1, CDBG eligible, low access to green space).
  • Event: We are a small staff, but we do love getting invites for your harvest events, family nights, graduations, and more! We can’t promise that we’ll be there, but we’ll certainly try.
