Garden to Café

Garden to Café is a program of the NYC Department of EducationOffice of SchoolFood, and the program is a partner in Grow to Learn: the Citywide School Garden Initiative. The program connects school gardening and school lunch through seasonal harvest events and educational activities.  Garden to Café expanded from 22 schools to more than 50 due to generous funding from the

Rachael Ray Yum-O! Foundation. 

Garden to Café program objectives include:

•  Increase students' consumption of fresh vegetables and knowledge of healthful foods, farming and the local food system. 

•  Increase awareness of the benefits of school gardens

•  Demonstrate the learning opportunity of integrating school gardening with school lunch. 

•  Build awareness of the larger local food initiatives underway at SchoolFood.
